UHNM Robotics Excellence Showcase Celebrates Decade Of Innovation And 5,000 Surgery Milestone

University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) NHS Trust, with the pivotal support of UHNM Charity, was proud to host a special ‘Robotics Excellence Showcase’ on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. The event celebrated a remarkable decade of robotic surgical innovation at UHNM, which had surpassed a landmark 5,000 robotic-assisted procedures since the programme began in 2014.

The showcase offered an opportunity for UHNM clinical teams, patients, executives, and industry partners to come together and reflect on a transformative journey that has cemented the Trust’s reputation as a leader in cutting-edge surgical care. It built upon a highly successful event held two years prior, which had seen strong engagement from medical students, trainees, and a global online audience via live surgery streaming.

This year’s event built on that legacy by offering a comprehensive look at UHNM’s robotic surgery programme. The agenda featured hands-on simulations and critical panel discussions, which included the UHNM’s 5000th patient accompanied by the pioneering surgeons who helped build the programme’s success. Discussions focused on the UHNM robotic journey, the patient experience, future implementation plans, and pioneering research.

The event underscored UHNM’s commitment to showcasing its robotic surgery work on local, national, and international stages, highlighting its dedication to clinical excellence, training the next generation of surgeons, and pioneering research.

Lisa Thomson, Director of UHNM Charity, said: “The showcase was a tremendous success, vividly highlighting how charitable support has directly translated into surgical innovation and improved patient care. Having our 5000th patient share the stage with the pioneering surgeons behind this programme was a powerful moment. It perfectly illustrated the human impact of this decade-long journey and the collective success built by UHNM Charity, our donors, and our incredible clinical teams.”
