UHNM Charity is supporting the radiotherapy team as they take on a 22,485 km challenge to help fund new technology that removes the need for permanent tattoos during treatment. The distance matches the number of treatments delivered last year. The fundraiser will run for the next twelve months.
Ben Hubbard, Practice Educator, says,
"We want to raise money and awareness for new radiotherapy technology that lets patients go tattoo-less. The current tattoos stay on the body for life and many patients see them as a reminder of their treatment. The SGRT system gives accurate setup without permanent ink and it tracks patients during treatment, stopping the machine if they move. It has a strong positive effect on wellbeing and no centre in the West Midlands has it yet."
Staff across the radiotherapy department are taking part. Radiographers, medical physicists, scheduling teams, admin, planners, dosimetry, engineering technicians, nursing staff and cleaners are logging their distance through a shared Strava account. Thirty five staff have joined so far.
