Kyle’s Skydive Raises Funds for Head and Neck Cancer Care

In August, we met Kyle and his sister Hollie to talk about the journey Kyle has been on since his cancer diagnosis - and the incredible challenge they were about to take on together.

Kyle was diagnosed in 2023 with stage 4 laryngeal cancer, a rare and serious condition affecting the voice box. He required extensive surgery and ongoing treatment, but through it all, he’s remained positive and determined to live life to the fullest.

Hollie said: “From the very first appointment, Kyle has been treated with exceptional care from everyone involved. As a family, we’re extremely grateful for the care he’s received and couldn’t thank Mr George and his team enough. Without them, Kyle wouldn’t have been diagnosed and treated as quickly as he was. Kyle is able to live his life to the fullest and for that he is truly thankful. That’s the reason we chose them to raise money for - we hope this money can go towards new technology to continue improving the care they deliver.”

With that goal in mind, Kyle decided to take on a skydive, raising money for the ENT department at UHNM to give back to the team who supported him throughout his treatment.

Professor Ajith P George, Consultant Head & Neck Surgeon and Thyroid Lead, said: “We’re really impressed with Kyle and Hollie - it’s so brave what they’ve done, especially after major surgery like Kyle’s. The money they’ve raised will help the head and neck department and future patients.”

Thimina Ruwampura, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, added: “Kyle has been on a tough journey, and it’s wonderful that he’s turned that experience into something positive. We can’t thank Kyle, Hollie and their supporters enough.”

Kyle’s courage and determination to give back are an inspiration to everyone at UHNM. His efforts will directly benefit patients facing their own battles with head and neck cancer, helping to improve care for years to come.
