Hikers go the extra mile to raise funds for UHNM Charity

A dedicated walking group made up of staff members from University Hospitals of North Midlands have successfully completed a Sunrise to Sunset Snowdon Challenge, raising more than £1,300 for UHNM Charity.

The challenge saw the group known as the Bandit Hikers, take on Mount Snowdon and walk from the early morning sunrise to the evening sunset, covering a remarkable distance to raise funds in support of UHNM’s ongoing fundraising appeal for a pregnancy and baby loss contemplation area for families who have experienced a loss.

Mark Caplice, UHNM clinical support worker, who organised the walk, said: “I’m always up for a challenge and thought this hike would be a good one to do for a great cause. I managed to get some of the team from Bandit Hikers to take part in the challenge, which was fantastic for them to be involved.

“The team were incredible, and we really enjoyed the hike. I am delighted at how much we have raised for the appeal and so proud of the entire team who took part and hope we can do another challenge soon!"

Sarah Lake, UHNM specialist bereavement midwife, said: “It is amazing to receive the donation from the team who took on this fantastic challenge. A big thank you goes to them all.

“The support we have received for our appeal has been incredible and every amount that is raised puts us one step closer to reaching our target.”

Members of the Bandit Hikers presented the cheque to the maternity team.

Rubiya Lenin, junior trainer in neurology, who joined Mark on the hike, said: “The hike was hard at the beginning, but once we got into it, the flow of the walk wasn’t too bad. We made it just before sunset, which was amazing. We are so happy to raise this money, it’s such a good cause, and it’s great to know we are helping families.”
