Eight-year-old Harley, from Kent, recently raised £526.90 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UHNM by organising a Wear Pink day at his school.
The event was held in memory of his baby sister, who sadly passed away in NICU. Harley wanted to do something positive to remember her and to help other families going through the same experience.
Harley encouraged his classmates and teachers to get involved by wearing something pink for the day and making a small donation. The response from pupils, parents and staff was incredible, with everyone showing their support and helping him raise an impressive total.
Katy Edwards, Matron for NICU, said: “A huge thank you from the babies, families and staff to Harley and his amazing fundraising efforts. The generosity of his school friends, parents and staff is very much appreciated. The funds will be used to support future families during their neonatal journey and to make sure they have everything they need to rest and look after themselves while their baby is being cared for on the NICU at UHNM. Well done, Harley!”
This thoughtful act of kindness from someone so young will make a real difference to families spending time in NICU, helping them feel supported during what can be a very difficult period.
