The last eight months have been a rollercoaster for Joanna Kelsall, whose husband Dave was diagnosed with skin cancer. Joanna said her husband “has been so brave and fought like a champ,” adding that “the cancer unit were amazing, especially Ty and Steve from the chemotherapy department who made the experience more manageable and helped him through some of his darkest days. We can’t thank them enough.”
Wanting to give back, Joanna organised a family fun day to raise money for the cancer unit, collecting an incredible £1,550.96 to support the team who cared for Dave. “I know it will never be enough,” she said, “but anyone facing this journey will be in safe hands with the cancer unit. They really are angels in the darkest of times and helped save my husband’s life.”
Gemma Healey, Matron from the Cancer Unit, said the team were proud of their colleagues. “We’re extremely proud of Steve and Ty and the incredible contribution they make to Ward 202. They go above and beyond every day for our patients, delivering care with kindness, empathy and laughter. Both have experienced cancer firsthand, giving them a unique ability to connect with patients and provide that extra special touch. Their compassion and dedication truly make them amazing at what they do.”
