Batting for a better tomorrow - Meir Heath Cricket Club family fundraiser

Every year, Meir Heath Cricket Club come together to host an annual charity day, raising funds to support local people within their community. It’s a date that club members, families and supporters look forward to, with activities, entertainment, and sport all coming together to create a lively family fun day.

This year’s event carried even greater meaning. The club chose to dedicate the day to UHNM Charity, in support of one of their own - Archie, a young club member known as their “little superhero.” Archie has faced an incredibly tough battle with his health over the past year, and the decision to raise money for the Children’s Oncology Unit at Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke was one the whole club rallied behind.

Club Chairman Richard Inskip explained:
“Archie and his family are a massive part of our club, and the local support we had on the day was fantastic. It was amazing for us to be able to raise £1,500.60, which I know will go towards helping the children treated at the Children’s Oncology Unit every day, and especially in the build up to Christmas.”

The money raised will help UHNM Charity continue to fund projects and equipment that make a difference to young patients and their families during long and difficult stays in hospital. Children’s Oncology Nurse Specialist Claire Butler highlighted the impact of the donation:
“This is a fantastic amount of money raised by the club, which will benefit our patients, as they can sometimes be with us for extended periods of treatment. This money really helps to improve the quality of their time here.”

The charity day is not only about fundraising, but also about showing solidarity and community spirit. For Archie and his family, seeing friends, teammates and neighbours come together in such a positive way offered strength and support during a challenging year.
