Fire Service's Wheely Good Donation

Patients at the Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke will have a less daunting trip to the operating theatre thanks to the fundraising efforts of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A specially-designed and bespoke fire engine-shaped Strollex Trolley will soon make trips to theatre a less frightening and more enjoyable experience for younger patients.

Kelvin Chell, Fire Safety Officer said: “We’re always looking for different organisations we can help, and we noticed the hospital had Strollex trollies, but didn’t have one in the shape of a fire engine. The trolley was designed based on one of our existing engines, and was funded mainly through funds from the ‘Stokie Christmas Market’ we host at Hanley fire station.”

He added: “Raising money for charities and less fortunate people is something we’ve always done in the fire service. We’ve always had a knack of helping people, and we’re fortunate we can do that. We really imaged that the trolley would bring a smile to many children’s faces so we made it happen.”

The trolley was officially donated to our colleagues in the Children’s Hospital buy Chief Fire Officer Becci Bryant.
