U3A's Cards for Cardiology

A craft group from Biddulph has raised £500 for Cardiothoracic Care at UHNM.

The U3A Biddulph Friday Card Group donated the money to UHNM Charity through the sales of its cards.

The Card Group’s members, who meet weekly in Lund House, a former doctor’s surgery, sold the cards to family and friends after starting fundraising for UHNM Charity following one of the members being diagnosed for breast cancer.

Rita Bellwood, Friday Card Group Leader said, “We wanted to thank Mr Warwick and the Cardiothoracic Department at UHNM following the treatment given to Colin Hooper, the husband of one of the group’s members. In addition to the money raised through the sales of our cards, the ladies in the group, along with the U3A Keep Fit Group have also donated a large amount of jewellery and scarves to be sold in aid of the Fresh Hair Salon at the Royal Stoke’s Cancer Centre and County Hospital.”

U3A (the University of the Third Age) is a UK-wide movement which brings together people in their ‘third age’, the time after retiring and raising a family, to develop their interests and continue their learning in a friendly and informal environment. U3A Biddulph has 620 members from the town and surrounding area, running 33 different groups including keep fit, crafts and languages.
