Members of our Radiotherapy Department have raised £4,560 for cancer patients at UHNM by completing the gruelling Yorkshire Tree Peaks Challenge.

The ‘Rambling Radiographers’ conquered the 24-mile trek of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough all within the 12-hour time limit.

The funds raised will go towards upgrading patient equipment used with our Cancer Centre’s brand-new linear accelerator machine.

Keren Barker, Radiotherapy Advanced Practitioner said: “We were really lucky with the conditions on the day, it was mainly dry until the last hour after dark when it rained. Being with our group of colleagues was fabulous, we were chatting the whole way and despite being a though challenge it was really enjoyable. We received lots of messages of support from family, friends and colleagues which helped motivate us along the way.”

The team also held a quiz, raffle and live music night at London Road Bowling Club in Newcastle raising over £1,000 towards their total.
