A thriving hospital choir has donated funds raised through a series of concerts to help improve patient experience at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).

The University Hospital Choir donated £1,500 to UHNM Charity which will be used to further enhance the care given at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford.

The choir raised the funds through donations made at its annual summer and Christmas concerts, as well as other events throughout the year.

Judith Lawton from the University Hospital Choir presented the cheque to Ro Vaughan, Director of HR at UHNM at a recent choir meeting.

Judith said, “In June we held our annual summer concert, this year entitled Family Favouritesand that’s exactly what it was, a collection of favourite songs as voted for by our family and friends. Everyone felt it was our most enjoyable concert to date because the songs traced a path of memories, from babies born to choir members, concerts and competitions, treasured choir friends lost and to weddings we’ve sung at and celebrated.”

“As well as performing at the Trust’s annual Christmas tree light switch on events, the choir’s Christmas concert was entitled ‘Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime’, that was simply that, a wonderful time, with candlelit carol singing, sleigh bells, santa hats, twelve pass-the-parcels making their way around the audience and lively music from Penkhull Village Brass, it really started the festive season with gusto.”

The University Hospital Choir was founded in 2010 and currently has over 50 active members made up of current and retired NHS staff and friends. The Choir perform an annual summer and Christmas concert as well as at various fundraising events through the year.
