Lead Specialist Screening Nurse Practitioner and Bowel Scope Endoscopist Carol Beeston will be taking part in a Tandem Skydive for UHNM Charity and to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer.

Carol said: "This has been a dream and a challenge of mine to do, it has been on my bucket list of wild and wacky things to complete before I hit the grand age of 50! I have already completed a hot air balloon ride, helicopter ride and I managed to do my first ever 10k run earlier this year in support of the Stroke Group. I do still have a few years left to think of new challenges to set myself before I do reach the magic 50 and many of my friends and work colleagues definitely agree that I must be crazy to want to do this, but it is something I have wanted to complete for many years.

"This is fully funded by myself and as such I wish to use it for a cause on which I am passionate about and I hope it will help to provide support in raising the awareness of bowel cancer as well as the importance of knowing about the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer. These include a change in your bowel habit lasting for three weeks or longer, blood in your poo, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss and how important it is to understand that early presentation and diagnosis can save your life.

Bowel Cancer is the 4th biggest cancer in the UK but the 2nd biggest cause of cancer deaths and every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer within the UK.  Carol has worked within the UHNM Bowel Cancer Screening Programme since 2008. She hopes that this will raise awareness on how important it is to be aware of your own bowel habit and to seek medical advice with any concerns or worries. 100% of the funds raised will go towards helping spread this important message across the region and raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer.
